The International Corporate Accountability Roundtable (ICAR) is excited to welcome David McKean as Legal and Policy Director. David has over a decade of experience leading successful advocacy campaigns and legal strategies in furtherance of human rights and accountability, at both the domestic and international level.

David joins ICAR from Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, where he led work with a wide range of civil society activists and human rights defenders, primarily in Asia and North Africa. He oversaw legal and advocacy efforts related to combatting closing civic space, including restrictions to freedom of expression, association, and assembly, as well as seeking accountability for mass atrocity crimes and other human rights abuses. Prior to joining Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, David practiced civil rights law at Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN), an organization dedicated to advancing the rights of LGBT members of the United States military. In his capacity as Legal Director, he worked extensively on the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and the overturning of restrictive definitions of marriage, including the Defense of Marriage Act, by the United States Supreme Court and lower courts.

David is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and the American University, Washington College of Law. During law school he was elected Executive Editor of the American University International Law Review. He is a member of the New York bar.

David joined ICAR on July 15, 2019.
